Job Description:

Espressif Systems is seeking a skilled Senior Embedded Software Engineer to join our team in Tokyo, Japan. This role focuses on providing high-level technical support to customers, while also contributing to software development and validation for embedded systems. The ideal candidate will work closely with internal engineering teams and directly with customers to resolve technical challenges and improve software quality. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced software engineer to be part of a dynamic team in a customer-facing role.

Required Experience & Skills:

• 5+ years of experience in software development, with a focus on embedded systems.
• Strong proficiency in C/C++ and Python for embedded software development.
• Solid understanding of RTOS, wireless protocols (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth), and microcontroller architectures.
• Experience in debugging complex software issues and providing technical solutions.
• Strong communication skills in both Japanese and English, with the ability to explain technical concepts to customers.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working with Espressif’s ESP32 or similar platforms.
• Familiarity with open-source software development and version control systems (Git).
• Knowledge of software security best practices for embedded systems.

Main Responsibilities

• Programming and OOP: Utilize your excellent programming skills and profound knowledge of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) to develop efficient and maintainable automation solutions.

• Automation Framework Design: Design and implement scalable, sustainable, and reliable automation frameworks that can accommodate testing across multiple product sets.

• Requirement Understanding: Collaborate closely with stakeholders to understand project requirements thoroughly and translate them into comprehensive test plans.

• Test Case Development: Develop automated test cases across various product sets including Web, API, Mobile, and CLI, ensuring thorough testing coverage.

• Tool Proficiency: Leverage your experience with automation testing tools such as Pytest, TestNG, Selenium, Rest API, and Phone App automation frameworks to streamline the testing process.

• Domain Expertise: Experience in the IOT and embedded domains would be advantageous, although not mandatory.

• AI/ML Familiarity: Knowledge or experience in AI/ML models and libraries such as OpenCV would be a significant plus.

• CI/CD and Tools: Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, tools like Jenkins, issue tracking systems like Jira, and version control systems like Gitlab is essential for seamless integration into our development workflow.

• Operating Systems: Comfortable working with multiple operating systems including FreeRTOS, Ubuntu, and Mac OS.  

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree, or above, in Computer Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Communications Engineering, Automation or other related disciplines.

• At least 3 to 5 years of automated testing experience.

• Good knowledge on manual testing and QA processes.

• Good working knowledge of Python, Java or any high-level programming language.

• Experience with Pytest, TestNG, Appium, Selenium, REST API, UI Automation.

• Working knowledge of AWS is plus.

• Experience in IOT, embedded domain is plus.

• Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Jenkin or GitLab

• Familiarity with Linux OS

Espressif is looking for an Application Engineer to join us. In this role, you will be responsible for working as technical liaison for the customers to design, implement customer specific features and triage their issues in various phases of product development. You’ll need to also work with the sales team to identify opportunities from technical feasibility perspective. 

Primary job responsibilities:

• Support design-in at key customers, developing customized software as per customer requirements
• Work closely with customers’ engineering teams to ensure that the customers can successfully go to production with Espressif solutions in timely manner
• Create technical solutions such as hardware and software demos and reference system designs
• Methodical and timely analysis and response to various customer issues and questions; interact with R&D as needed for the same
• Assimilate customer feedback and communicate with R&D for product improvement

Required Skills:

• 4+ years of experience in an area of connectivity, networking, systems software and architecture
• Bachelor’s degree in electronics engineering or computer science; advanced degree is a plus
• Good understanding of embedded systems, RTOS, TCP/IP networking and protocols, hardware peripherals and drivers, processor architecture or a subset of these
• Experience with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth LE and 802.15.4 radio is a big plus
• Basic C/C++ programming expertise with good debugging skills
• Domain knowledge of and experience with connected devices software and hardware is a plus
• Solid written and verbal communication, presentation and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated curiosity in engineering and the ability to quickly learn new skills and adapt to project needs

Job Responsibilities:

1. Participate in the development of the overall operation and maintenance system, write operation and maintenance scripts and interface programs to enable automation.

2. Participate in the design and development of operation and maintenance automation systems, tools and their visualization systems (such as deployment systems, infrastructure management, environmental management, and other systems).

3. Research and use forward-looking open source technology to improve O&M efficiency.

Job Prerequisites:

1. Bachelor degree or above, computer or related major, more than 5 years of relevant work experience.

2. Proficiency in the management and maintenance of Linux operating system.

3. Experience with automation using shell scripts and Ansible.

4. Familiarity with Docker and related container technologies.

5. Have a working knowledge of cluster orchestration platforms (Docker Swarm and Kubernetes).

6. Experience with CI systems (Gitlab CI/Github Actions/Circle CI/Jenkins).

7. Proficiency in Python application development, familiar with Python Web framework (Flask/Fastapi/Django).

8. Able to self-drive, love technology, have strong self-motivated, good at exploring and studying.

9. Have good communication skills and a strong sense of responsibility.

Nice to have:

1. Understanding of cloud platforms AWS/Azure/Rackspace.

2. Skill with infrastructure-as-code toolkits Teraform/AWS CloudFormation/OpenShift Heat.

3. Basic knowledge of front-end web technologies (HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript) and frameworks (Vue/React/...).

4. Experience with Powershell and Windows Containers.

About this position:

We are looking for individuals with a solid understanding of RISC architectures and a background in compilers, debuggers, or development tools to work on projects such as GCC compiler, Binutils, GNU Debugger (GDB), and QEMU emulator.

Main Responsibilities:

1. Maintenance of existing backend code in GCC, Binutils, GDB (Xtensa and other architectures). 

2. Improvements of code generation.

3. Implementing new target-specific features and optimizations.

4. Implementing and maintaining support for Espressif SoCs in QEMU emulator.

Requirements:

1. Proven experience in development of any of the above mentioned projects, or other compilers and debugging tools.

2. Experience in interaction with project maintainers and submitting patches to mailing lists.

Any of the following would be a strong plus:

1. Familiarity with MCUs and other MMU-less embedded systems; awareness of their constraints.

2. Familiarity with parallel programming languages and tools.

3. Familiarity with continuous integration systems and code review tools.

4. Experienced user of at least one scripting language (shell, Python, etc.)
